Winter 2010
What a wonderful season! 20,704 visitors signed in at the Visitors Center, the most we've ever greeted in one summer. They came from all 50 states, Canada, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Belize, Bermuda, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dubai, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Venezuela, United Kingdom, and West Indies. So exciting to meet folks from all over the world!
In July new officers were elected at our annual meeting. Congratulations to:
President: Carolyn MacMillan, Pembroke
Vice President: Ron Pesha, Lubec
Secretary: Sylvia Boomer, Lubec
Board of Directors: Ruth O'Neal and Junia Lehman of Lubec, Margaret Curley-Clay, Georgia and Lubec,
Deane and Ginny Hutchins, Veazie.
Visitors were able to tour the tower on two occasions - the Annual Celebration on July 10th, and Maine Open Lighthouse Day September 18th, thanks to U.S. Coast Guard members. These are very special days for all of us since the tower is only open to the public once or twice a year. Around 600 people visited the top of the tower!
We wish to express our gratitude for our friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic volunteers without whom the Visitors Center would not be able to remain open every day from Memorial Day to mid-October. These very special people are: Sylvia Boomer, Dick Hoyt, Hovey Hall, Leona MacBride, Carolyn MacMillan, Ruth O'Neal, Cindy Thompson, Ron Pesha, Ellen Cates, Ginny MacCaslin, Paula Mathews, Elaine Simmonds, James Lewis, Loretta Moores, Steven and Marilyn Welsch, Roberta and Paul Ivan, Bob Frazier, and Barbara Sellito. An appreciation dinner for these folks took place at Frank's Dockside Restaurant in Lubec towards the end of the season.
At our 9th Annual Celebration on July 10th, wonderful live music was supplied by our dear friends Noel Vellieux, Stephen SanFilippo, and Duane Ingalls. Local businesses who donated items for our raffle include: Cohill's Inn, Annabelle's Pub, Uncle Kippy's Restaurant, Lubec Hardware, Northern Tides Gallery and Gifts, West Quoddy Gifts, Shop Maine Made, Downeast Drawings, Pembroke Maine Art, Atlantic House Coffee Shop & Deli, Bayside Chocolates, and The Village Restaurant. We thank these folks for their generous and continued support!
Take a look at the video on the home page of this website for scenes from Maine Open Lighthouse Day 2010.
As Lubec, Maine prepares to celebrate its bicentennial, please plan to spend some time here with us. Check the celebration schedule at www.lubecbicentennial.org.
Hope to see everyone this spring, summer, and early fall here at the easternmost point in the USA!
